FAQ’s

  • Why should I take your yoga classes?

Yoga offered today takes on many forms, not all kinds are best for the aging body.  I have been trained to understand the needs of older women and their changing bodies.  Fancy poses and pushing one’s self to extremes is not always helpful.  In these classes there is a steady focus on mobility, improving balance both physical and mental, increasing strength and maintaining agility. A focus on these goals enables women to maintain health, independence and vitality as they age.

  • What qualifications do you have as a teacher?

I have been teaching yoga for the past 8 years and have practiced yoga for the past 40 years. Since my initial certification as a teacher, I continue to develop my teaching skills and deepen my understanding of the human body through advanced studies. These studies continually shape my interest in foundational support for functional movement so that strength and mobility take priority over flexibility. See my full qualifications here.

  • I’m not flexible. Can I take your classes?

Yes! There is a great misconception that you have to be flexible to practice yoga.  This is simply not true. These classes are accessible to all and do not lead you into ridiculously impossible movement and poses.  The practice is nourishing for both mind and body and very supportive and accepting of everyone’s individual capabilities.  You will find the classes very approachable.

  • How long are your classes?

The classes offered online are 40 minutes long.

  • Do you do any meditation in your classes?

Yes, 10 to 15 minutes of every class are devoted to breath work and guided meditation. I believe these are key components of every yoga practice.

  • Do I need to buy anything? I’ve never taken yoga before.

I always recommend coming to the first free class with what you have or do not have. If you enjoy the experience, which I hope you will, we can talk about what you will need going forward to support yourself. There are many different yoga mats and other props out there to support your practice, some much better than others.

  • What do I wear to class?

A comfortable top and pants that you can move in.

  • I think I’m too old for a yoga class, am I?

You’re never too old to move!  I teach a student who is 90 and still moving beautifully and happily at her own pace!
